092 | You Search The Scriptures…

Welcome to episode 92 of The Grace Cafe Podcast. In a conversation with the Pharisees of his day, Jesus made an amazing statement concerning the Old Testament. He told them, “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness of me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.” The Pharisees of Jesus’ day believed that an academic pursuit of the Old Testament was life-giving and in so doing, they missed the point of the Old Testament, Jesus. They forfeited a relationship with the God of the Old Testament in favor of academic pursuit and achievement.

Do we do the same thing? Is the Bible a textbook to be mastered? If so, why do Group A and Group B disagree with one another on its interpretation when both are using the same Bible? Even the Pharisees and the Sadducees of Jesus’ day couldn’t agree on a consistent interpretation of the Scriptures even though both groups had the same information. This episode is an open and honest conversation about the Bible. Let’s talk…

  1. wow wow wow! you got me! i’ve been feeling so guilty for not reading the bible. i was like you Sue. bible reading guides. then you miss a day, or 2, or 3–then i quit. then–confusion–where do i read in this great big book. so i don’t read it. Now i subscribe to lots of
devotionals. I stay with what feels true and discard the rest. i subscribe to new covenant teachers, preachers, podcasts. and ‘hear’ what seems off in the former people i followed. i agree about being disrupted. i want peace of mind! i wanna KNOW God’s Love. I wanna KNOW Jesus’ heart. i hurt, i cry out, to be free! i truly want to know ONLY JESUS CHRIST and HIM CRUCIFIED and RISEN and the POWER that OUTFLOWS that RESURRECTION!!!!
😉 i listen to Joel and Mike, kinda know Mike esp personally. Worked with him in his grocery store and listened to KWOF. Off to finish the conversations on this page. PTL! ❤
